Investors in Families is the national accreditation scheme established to recognise those schools and other settings that work with families to achieve the five outcomes of Every Child Matters.

Pupil premium

Both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats election manifestoes spoke of a pupil premium: this also figured in the Coalition Agreement. There are no details as yet.

A new Education Bill

The Queen’s Speech will be made on 25th May setting out the new government’s legislative programme. It is certain to include an Education Bill, but it is too early to say what it may contain.

Investors in Families event on 8th July

Coalition government within the new Department for Education

The re-named Department for Education will retain responsibility for children and families, but, according to Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, it will focus on “teaching and learning” but there will also be reform in children’s services. Sarah Teather MP is the new Minister for Children and Families and Tim Loughton MP is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families.

The schools that participated in the pilot were presented with their certificates by Jane Hutt, the minister responsible for children’s services in the Welsh Assembly at a celebration event organised by ESIS (the shared advisory service working with the five authorities on the pilot).
